Mother in Mannville:
One of my favorites so far!  Reader is left to imagine the 'rest of the story'.
Of the two storytellers, who is better?

Alligators

Did anyone flash back to Captain Ahab and the Great White Whale in Rawlings' tales of alligator rolling and riding?  I did!

Link to another interesting Rawlings blog

Hi All
Here is a URL for a blog with some super pictures of Cross Creek in todays (State Park) form

Apparently the furniture, or most of it is original, having been donated by Marjories second husband

If you are on a PC, you can highlight the URL and  copy and paste it into a browser, or even easier, after highlighting, just right click and select "open link in new tab"

Here's one version of the song in Jacob's ladder:

Since I lay my burden down
Bigelow guesses that Mart and Florry travel down the Withlacoochee River which flows into the Suwanee then to the gulf. Here's a link about a modern couple who traveled on the river:

Jacob's Ladder

I am finding it very disturbing/sad  to read about the setbacks that happened to Florry. Especially leaving behind the child and pets she came to love....also being so close to starvation so many times. Such a different life than we lead. I guess you don't miss what you have never known!

Friends, I am only halfway through Jacob's Ladder.  I've got to pick up the pace to be ready by Friday.

Wondering at this point:  did MKR try cooter and possum in order to write about how delicious they were?  I'm not sure I could do that for art!
